Sahibzada Ajit Singh nagar to host first ‘Saras Mela’ in Mohali

Disclosing this, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said that our district has the opportunity for the first time to host this fair, renowned in the country and abroad, and traditionally held in major cities. The fair is scheduled to take place at Sector 88 from February 16 to February 25, 2024, with participation from artists, artisans, traders, and skilled individuals from various states. Thousands of visitors are expected daily for shopping and entertainment. She expressed sincere gratitude to the Punjab government for granting the opportunity to host this event.

The Deputy Commissioner has formed various committees comprising higher officials of the district to ensure the smooth and timely execution of the ‘Saras Mela.’ Duties have been assigned to different officials.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development)-cum-Mela Nodal Officer Mrs. Sonam Chaudhary mentioned that artists and artisans from different states are likely to participate in this fair. Between 300 to 350 stalls (shops) will be set up at the fair, including food stalls. Food stalls featuring cuisines from different states will be a special attraction. Swings will be arranged for children’s entertainment, and the fair will showcase the heritage and cultural art of artists from different states. Preparations have begun to make the fair a success.
Harveer Kaur (PCS (UT)) and District Development and Panchayat Officer Amarinder Pal Singh Chauhan have been appointed as Assistant Mela Nodal Officers by Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain.

Among the committees formed for the fair’s arrangements, the Executive Committee and the Purchase Committee will be led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Viraj S Tidke. Site Selection/Planning and Development Committee and Publicity/Advertisement Committee will be headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary.

A committee on stay arrangements has been constituted under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Administrator, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority, Amarinder Singh Tiwana.
