Residents distressed by filth, Municipal Commissioner remains unaware

In the Moti Dungri area, piles of garbage are causing distress to locals, while municipal authorities seem oblivious to the situation. Despite spending millions on cleanliness, the administration’s efforts are failing, leaving streets littered with dirt. Residents and shopkeepers in the vicinity are troubled by the mounting filth, making living conditions unbearable. Not only does the garbage emit foul odors, but it also serves as breeding grounds for mosquitoes and various diseases. Although the Heritage City Corporation was awarded for cleanliness earlier this year, the current state of Moti Dungri paints a different picture. Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Surana appears indifferent to the situation.

Shopkeepers setting up stalls near the garbage heaps recount that the condition remains the same on the entire road every day. They claim that the municipal waste collection vehicles have not been seen in the area for the past six days, exacerbating the difficulties for residents and passersby. Furthermore, the temple nearby is also affected by the stench, causing inconvenience to devotees. Despite the corporation’s annual expenditure on cleanliness, the Heritage City Corporation seems ineffective in keeping the city clean.

Despite deploying officers and staff in the Heritage area, the corporation’s efforts have been fruitless. On the 5th of this month, Ward Incharges were appointed in each ward, with 53 officers deployed across 100 wards. The aim was to ensure the success of the cleanliness campaign. Additionally, the corporation is running a special campaign involving various activities such as zero waste events, water bodies cleanliness, Navratri celebrations, plastic-free market campaigns, dry waste collection, segregation, composting, street rallies, and e-waste collection, aiming to improve its rank in cleanliness surveys by engaging the public. However, the ground reality appears different.

Abhishek Surana, Commissioner, Heritage City Corporation, stated: “The corporation is conducting daily cleanliness operations. The Moti Dungri area and its surroundings cannot be filthy. Piles of garbage on roadside are termed as open depots. Currently, there are 600 open depots in the city, out of which 300 have been closed.”

The situation demands urgent attention from the municipal authorities to address the growing cleanliness concerns and alleviate the distress faced by residents.
