Bus commuters in Punjab have received a reprieve as the announced statewide bus strike by the Punjab Roadways Contract Workers Union has been deferred. Originally, the union had declared a chakka jam (roadblock) across Punjab on December 1-2, but the government has granted them a meeting. According to Harvinder Singh, the head of the union’s Chandigarh depot, the government has scheduled a meeting on December 6 with the Transport Minister, Cabinet Sub-Committee, and the Chairman of the Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC). Singh stated that if the issues are not resolved in the meeting, they will outline the course of the next protest.
