Cold wave continues in Haryana. On the first day of the new year, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert regarding fog in 14 districts. In 24 hours, the day temperature in the state has dropped by 4.6 degrees, while the night temperature has also dropped by 1.3 degrees. This has increased the chill during night and day.
This weather condition is classified as a cold day and cold wave, attributed to the impact of a western disturbance causing morning cloud cover. As clouds intermittently appear throughout the afternoon, sunlight visibility diminishes. However, many districts experienced mild morning fog today, with a more discernible effect observed in rural regions.

Despite Karnal being in Haryana, the temperature in its city was lower than that in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. The initial alert was issued at 9:17 PM, followed by subsequent alerts at 11:34 PM and 2:53 AM. These warnings highlighted the possibility of dense to very dense fog. Urging caution, the department advised people to venture outdoors only if essential, emphasizing increased care for the elderly and children.
