Red Alert: Dense fog forecast across Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab

The Chandigarh Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for fog in Chandigarh, Haryana, and Punjab. According to the department, a thick blanket of fog is expected to persist in these regions for the next five days. In response, the Chandigarh Traffic Police has issued an advisory for drivers, urging them to avoid travel in fog if possible. The police advise using low beams, blinkers, and reflectors, driving at a slow pace, maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles, refraining from changing lanes, and paying extra attention to cyclists and pedestrians.

Low visibility due to the ongoing cold and fog is causing difficulties for road users, particularly during morning and evening hours. The weather conditions are anticipated to persist, with severe fog expected throughout Haryana and Punjab in the coming days. The Chandigarh Meteorological Department’s red alert indicates an anticipated increase in the density of the fog blanket over the next 48 hours.

The Meteorological Department predicts dry weather in Haryana and Punjab over the next 24 hours, leading to dense to very dense fog in many areas. Visibility is expected to be reduced, with people becoming visible only within a one-meter radius. Some areas may also experience cloud cover during this period. The districts of North Haryana, including Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, and Karnal, are likely to be most affected by fog.

An official from the Chandigarh Meteorological Department stated that Haryana may witness a rise in minimum temperatures over the next three to four days. Dense fog is expected in North Haryana and West and South-West Haryana in the next two days, with South and South-East Haryana experiencing dense fog in the morning and late evening. An Orange Alert has been issued for South East Haryana, and a dense fog blanket is anticipated over the next five days, with the possibility of very dense fog according to the Meteorological Department.
