Received a hoax bomb threat linked to a hotel in Mumbai, caller demanded 5 cr

The Mumbai Police have said that a fake bomb threat associated with a prominent hotel was received on Monday night. The police emphasised that an anonymous man contacted them and claimed that there were four locations in the hotel where bombs were stashed, and he requested Rs 5 crore to defuse them.

A case has been registered under Sections 336 and 507 of the Indian Penal Code.

This occurs only a few days after the municipal police received a terrorist attack threat resembling September 11, 2001, from a Pakistani caller. The police reportedly got many WhatsApp messages on Friday night. Following this, an investigation was started, and a barber from Virar was held for questioning, according to the reports.

Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar had said, “We are not taking the threat lightly. Any call we receive, we treat it seriously. In the past, several of them have turned out to be hoaxes.”

The discovery of a sailing vessel adrift in the Arabian Sea last week has put the state on high alert. Three assault rifles and many boxes of ammunition were among the ship’s cargo. “We discovered that the crate included ten boxes holding more than 200 live rounds, along with three assault weapons from the AK series.  In order to try to catch anyone who may have escaped from the boat before it was noticed, nakabandis were immediately put up in the Raigad area, which is around 100 kilometres from the state capital of Mumbai,” stated a senior police officer.
