Rajasthan’s 5-term MLAs make history, rule the political arena

In the sixteenth assembly, 3 MLAs have won continuously in 5 elections. Two of them are former chief ministers. Both have bungalows facing each other in Civil Lines, and their names are Vasundhara Raje and Ashok Gehlot. The third MLA is Pushpendra Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who reached the assembly by winning for the fifth time from Bali. BJP’s former chief minister Vasundhara Raje won from her traditional seat Jhalrapatan, and former chief minister of Congress Ashok Gehlot also won from his preferred seat Sardarpura. Similarly, Gulab Chand Kataria of the BJP won continuously 4 times from Udaipur, but before winning the fifth victory, the party made him the governor of Assam. The party brought Tarachand Jain in his place on his seat, and Jain kept Kataria’s legacy intact.
Among the current MLAs who have won four consecutive victories in the assembly elections, there are 5 leaders from the BJP and 3 from the Congress. Among them, the BJP leaders are—Siddhi Kumari, the former MLA from Bikaner East, Kalicharan Saraf from Malviya Nagar, Vasudev Devnani from Ajmer North, Anita Bhadel from Ajmer South, and Shankar Singh from Bayavar. Congress leaders are—Brijendra Singh Ola from Jhunjhunu, Govind Singh Dotasara from Laxmangarh, and Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya from Bagidora. Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) supremo Hanuman Beniwal is also such a person who has won four consecutive elections from the Khinvsar assembly seat.
In the assembly, 13 MLAs have won continuously three times. Among them, there are 11 from the BJP, one from Congress, and one independent. Ashok Chandna of Congress is the only MLA who has won for the third consecutive time from the Hindoli assembly seat, saving Congress’s honour.
BJP’s Kanhaiya Lal from Malpura, Suresh Singh Rawat from Pushkar, Pabba Ram Bishnoi from Falodi, Hemir Singh Bhayal from Sivana, Samararam Garasia from Pindwada-Abu, Pratap Lal Bhil from Gogunda, Phool Singh Meena from Udaipur Rural, Amrit Lal Meena from Salumbar, Arjun Lal Jinagar from Kapasan, and Surindra Singh Rathore from Khumbhalgarh, have achieved the feat of winning for the fourth consecutive time. Similarly, RLP’s Hanuman Beniwal is also a person who won four consecutive elections from the Khinvsar assembly seat.
Congress’s magic in Pali and Rajsamand:
Gyan Chand Parakh had won continuously for 5 elections from the Pali assembly seat from 1998 to 2018. This seat was considered the stronghold of the BJP. To win the sixth victory this time, Parakh was in the field again, but Congress’s Bhimraj Bhati turned the tables on his plans. Bhati defeated Gyan Chand Parakh with 7,888 votes, snatching this seat from ‘Kamal’ and putting it in the account of ‘Hand’.
A similar situation was in Rajsamand. Jagsi Ram Koli of BJP had won continuously 4 elections from this seat from 2003 to 2018. To win the fifth victory in 2023, Koli was in the field, but he fell into the hands of Congress’s Moti Ram Koli.

Unable to hit a six:
This time, 9 former MLAs failed to win continuously for the fourth time.
Among them are Dr Rajkumar Sharma from Nawalgarh, Nirmal Kumawat from Phulera, Giriraj Singh from Badi, Ramesh Chand Meena from Sapotra, Mevararam Jain from Badami, Puraram Choudhary from Bhilwada, Vithal Shankar Awasthi from Bagidora, and Ashok Dogra from Bundi, who stepped onto the election pitch to hit a six but went clean bold.
