Rain subside in J&K, relief expected amidst cloudy forecast

After days of incessant rainfall drenched Jammu and Kashmir, bringing life to a standstill and causing waterlogging in low-lying areas, a respite is in sight as the downpour ceased on Tuesday. The pause in rain offers a glimmer of hope for residents, although the weather forecast suggests the possibility of fresh showers in the coming days.

According to meteorological department officials, the next 24 hours may witness cloudy weather with the likelihood of light rain accompanied by thunder in many places. From May 1-5, generally dry weather is expected with afternoon thundershower activity predicted at a few places, while light rains with thunder are forecasted for scattered areas from May 6-7.
Despite the cessation of rainfall, the impact of the recent deluge is palpable, with waterlogging persisting on several roads and inundation in low-lying areas reported. The aftermath of the downpour has disrupted normal life, prompting authorities to remain vigilant and monitor the situation closely.

In terms of temperatures, a significant drop has been recorded across the region. Srinagar recorded a minimum of 3.0°C, Qazigund at 3.8°C, and Pahalgam at 0.7°C, all below normal for this time of the year. Similar trends were observed in other areas, with temperatures plummeting several degrees below the seasonal average.
Jammu, the winter capital of J&K, recorded a low of 12.9°C, while Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah registered temperatures ranging from 5.2°C to 6.5°C, significantly below normal levels.

The fluctuations in temperature, coupled with the unpredictable weather patterns, underscore the need for residents to remain cautious and prepared for any eventualities. As the region braces for potential rainfall in the coming days, authorities continue to emphasize safety measures and urge residents to stay informed and alert.
