In the Luni region, farmers staged a protest at the Jhanwar Tehsil office on Tuesday, demanding compensation for crop losses caused by recent heavy rains. They handed over a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to the Tehsildar, along with sacks of bajra (pearl millet) and moong (mung beans) affected by the inclement weather. Jhanwar Sarpanch Bhawarlal Patel explained that continuous rainfall over the past six days had destroyed the crops in the fields.
In response, the farmers are demanding appropriate compensation. During the protest, Jogaram Patel, former MLA of Luni, addressed the farmers, stating that they deserve fair compensation for their crops. The region initially witnessed good rainfall in June and July, giving farmers hope for a good harvest.
However, following sowing, incessant rains caused substantial damage to 80% of the crops. The remaining 20% of crops that had survived were in the process of being harvested when the weather suddenly turned unfavourable, with six days of continuous rainfall destroying all crops, which resulted in significant losses for the farmers.
Therefore, many farmers from the Jhanwar Tehsil area, including villages like Doli, Jhanwar, Khudala, Badalanagar, Loonawas Khara, and Janadesar, collectively submitted a memorandum. During this event, several dignitaries were present, including Rajendra Prasad Meghwal, a member of the Zila Parishad; Ganpatram, Sarpanch of Khudala; Amararam, Panchayat Samiti member; Bhagaraj Patel from Naradari; former Sarpanch Hemasingh; and retired Deputy Tehsildar Pukhraj Mehra.
