The disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha has created a big crisis for Congress. It is unlikely Rahul Gandhi is going to get relief from any court. It means that he will not be able to contest elections for 8 years. It means that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul cannot be made the face of the party.
Now after the new developments, a question is also arising: Will there be any change in the attitude of Nitish, Mamta, Arvind Kejriwal, Akhilesh Yadav, and Chandrashekhar Rao after the verdict on Rahul Gandhi? The change will come when Congress decides that it will accept one of these leaders as the face of the post of PM.
There is a tussle among the opposition leaders too on the face of the PM. Nitish, Mamta, and Chandrashekhar Rao are hopeful; they should get a chance. However, without Congress, the Opposition’s rhetoric will be ineffective. In this context, what decision will the Gandhi family take? One thing is sure: nothing is going to happen immediately. Experts believe that there is not going to be much relief. But today, after the Lok Sabha disqualified him, it was decided that there was no way left for them until 2024.
What will the Gandhi family do now? Priyanka Gandhi would like to be given a chance. But perhaps things will not work out. It has to be seen whether a senior leader of the party is put forward. That’s too unlikely, as Congress is not going to accept anybody other than its family members. So the party will struggle to provide a name other than Rahul Gandhi. The party will try its best to garner sympathy in his name. Like in 1977, Rahul will be projected like Indira Gandhi. However, before 2024, the Congress will face its first major test in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. If the party wins the elections in these states, then it will not give a chance to the opposition. If the party loses, then another big crisis will arise.
