Rahul Gandhi to visit Wayanad 1st time after  disqualification

On Tuesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Kerala’s Wayanad, where he was elected to Parliament in 2019, for the first time since he was disqualified as a Lok Sabha member by a Gujarat court last month, which found him guilty of defamation and sentenced him to two years in prison.

T Siddique, a Congress assembly member from Kerala, said Gandhi will hold a roadshow and speak at a public meeting. Around 100,000 people, including Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were expected to attend the meeting, he added.

According to Siddique, Rahul Gandhi’s event will be a show of strength in response to the disqualification, which sparked protests in Wayanad. Workers from Kerala’s Congress-led Opposition United Democratic Front will also attend the roadshow, he said. Siddique stated that they will be holding the national flag instead of party flags.

In his statement, Gandhi said that “It is a fight to revive the democratic traditions of the country. The Wayanad event will add to the momentum building up in the country. Workers will pledge their support to Rahul Gandhi. It will be a grand event.”

He stated that workers from three districts will gather to show their support for Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi had previously written to his supporters, explaining the circumstances that led to his “abrupt disqualification” and the “plan to fight back against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s undemocratic policies.”

Last week, Congress workers went door-to-door in Wayanad, distributing copies of Rahul Gandhi’s letter to voters.
