RAHUL CHANGES CULMINATION OF YATRA DATE 

As it will be difficult to hoist National flag in Srinagar on 26th January Rahul Gandhi has extended his Bharat Jodo Yatra for four more days. The last day of the Yatra will coincide with the Martyr’s day, the day when Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated. In Republic day in all the state capitals will have state level programme including in Srinagar. Political mangers of the Bharat Jodo Yatra was advised not to do any programme on that day as the whole state security agencies will be busy with the state level program which will be attended by the Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. While reviewing the program now Congress party has decided to hold a special program on 30th January in Srinagar to give a message to whole country. 

BENGAL’S TABLEAUX HOPE 

For last three years West Bengal Government’s tableaux was not included in the Republic day parade. This year State Government is hoping that their tableaux for Republic day parade will be included. West Bengal Government has sent model of the tableaux to defence ministry which depicts Durga Puja of West Bengal. In December 2021, UNESCO included Kolkata’s Durga puja in its lists of Intangible Cultural heritage. But problem may arise if Union Cultural ministry decides to showcase their achievement for getting Durga Puja included in the list of UNESCO. It is to be watched how defence ministry takes view on the tableaux presented by West Bengal Government. 

CENTER’S ANTI DUMPING DUTY ON JUTE 

On the last day of the previous year Union Commerce Ministry has re-imposed anti dumping duty on Jute import ignoring the request from Bangladesh Government. Bangladesh Commerce minister Tipu Munshi came to India to appeal to India Government for not imposing anti dumping duty on Jute. Internationally India is a competitor of Bangladesh in jute. Moreover West Bengal, Bihar and UP jute farmers as well as respective governments were urging Central Government not to lift the anti dumping duty on Jute as it will harm their livelihood. Despite having best diplomatic relations with neighbouring Bangladesh India has decided to please the domestic demand.
