Rahul and Priyanka will now handle Uttar Pradesh, says Sonia

Priyanka will take over the political legacy of her mother Sonia Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh.

After the Congress released Sonia Gandhi’s emotional letter, Priyanka Gandhi announced her participation in Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday. This directly indicates that Priyanka will take over the political legacy of her mother Sonia Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh.

Sonia did not mention in her emotional letter who her successor would be on her Rae Bareli seat, but in the end, she said, “I and my family will handle it the same way as we have been handling it so far.” It is directly inferred that a member of the Gandhi family will contest elections from Rae Bareli in any case.

On Wednesday, Sonia Gandhi submitted her nomination for the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, breaking ties with Rae Bareli in a way, more than two decades later. Questions were arising about whether the Gandhi family has abandoned Uttar Pradesh, as Rahul Gandhi is a Lok Sabha member from Wayanad. It is still uncertain whether Rahul will contest elections again from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. The party has not decided anything yet.

However, after Rahul Gandhi entered Uttar Pradesh during his justice journey, there is again speculation that the Gandhi family might contest elections on both seats. Priyanka Gandhi had left Uttar Pradesh for two years after a decisive defeat in the assembly elections. But now, after joining the Nyay Yatra, the message is clear that she will be active again in Uttar Pradesh politics.

As for the question of where to contest elections, the party will decide in the coming days. However, the Congress might certainly prepare strongly to contest elections in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress has sent an invitation to Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav to join the journey, and if he participates, the alliance between Rahul and Akhilesh, as seen in 2017, may emerge once again.
