Punjab’s first plant clinic and soil testing laboratory established in Moga

In a landmark initiative, Punjab’s first plant clinic and soil testing laboratory has been established in Moga, funded by a grant from NITI Aayog, a central government agency. The clinic, built at Rs 1.25 crore, will offer farmers free soil testing and plant disease diagnosis services.

Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian is set to inaugurate the facility on Monday, July 8.
Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh highlighted that the clinic has state-of-the-art equipment, including an ICP-OES machine, which can analyze soil samples and provide detailed reports on nutrient content, pH levels, and other parameters. Additionally, the clinic will have a plant doctor available to examine diseased plant samples and offer advice on managing diseases and pests.

The project made possible through the efforts of the Punjab Government and support from the central government’s scheme, aims to benefit farmers in the region by providing essential soil testing and expert guidance to improve soil fertility, thereby increasing yields and incomes. The clinic will also offer facilities for testing water and plant samples and will feature a digital microscope and other advanced equipment.

This initiative is part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and enhance farmers’ livelihoods in the area.
