Punjab Waris’s bail petition rejected by High Court

The Punjab Waris, alongside chief Amritpal Singh’s associates, faced a severe setback from the Punjab-Haryana High Court. The bail plea for Amritpal’s aides Shiv Kumar and Bhoopinder Singh, jailed under the National Security Act for an assault case in Ajnala police station, got rejected by the High Court. Delivered in a stern tone, the Court highlighted the gravity of the allegations against the plea applicants, denying their bail request even after eight months.

Advocate Ajaypal Singh alias Shiv Kumar and Balwinder Singh alias Sheru, representing themselves, stated in their plea that they weren’t present in Ajnala during the incident, raising doubts about their involvement. Their legal representatives also claimed the absence of their clients in any video or image presented by Punjab Police. Both were identified based solely on another accused’s statement without factual evidence. The incident occurred on February 23, and the FIR was lodged against them on the night of February 24. After a thorough hearing of all parties, the High Court dismissed both plea applicants’ bail petitions.

In the case related to Ajnala, when the police went to arrest Amritpal and his associates on March 18, Amritpal managed to escape. Following this, he constantly changed his appearance and fled from one city to another to evade the police. To arrest Amritpal, the police conducted search operations in Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Eventually, a non-bailable warrant was issued against Amritpal under the National Security Act. After 36 days, Amritpal was apprehended from a Gurudwara in Moga. Since then, both Amritpal and his associates have been incarcerated at the Dibrugarh Jail in Assam.
