On Tuesday, Punjab Police initiated a two-day comprehensive operation aimed at tackling anti-social elements throughout the state. The operation, dubbed “Operation Vigil,” will involve multi-pronged checking and area domination tactics, as explained by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
High-ranking officials, including additional director generals of police, inspector generals, and others, are overseeing the operation. While addressing reporters in Ludhiana, DGP Yadav detailed that Operation Vigil will be conducted at bus stands, markets, railway stations, and other public places. The operation also includes early morning checks at sarais (rest houses) and hotels. DGP Yadav noted that the operation will be conducted in various phases over two days, with the primary goal of taking action against anti-social elements and instilling confidence in the public. He added that past surprise checks have led to successful recoveries.
Special DGP Arpit Shukla emphasised that the police would be focusing on curbing drug trafficking, anti-social activities, and criminal offences through intensive checks, flag marches, and strategic deployments. Shukla took to Twitter, saying, “Strengthening our resolve to combat crime and ensure public safety, Punjab Police launches statewide OPS Vigil in all 28 districts led by senior rank officers.”
