Over three lakh differently-abled people in Punjab have been issued Unique Disability Identity (UDID) cards, according to the Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur.
The move is aimed at providing the benefits of various schemes and services of both central and Punjab governments to ‘divyang’ people on the basis of one card. The UDID card’s database is being prepared at the national level to make it easier for people with disabilities to access government schemes.
“The Punjab government has issued UDID cards to 3,07,219 divyang persons in the state till March 23, 2023,” said Kaur, adding that the government is committed to the welfare of differently-abled people.
A ‘Disability Cell’ has also been set up to provide a single-window platform for ‘divyang’ people to avail themselves of benefits under various government schemes.
Kaur urged differently-abled people in the state to apply for a UDID card by contacting service centres, district social security offices, or civil hospitals.
With the UDID card, they can easily access government schemes and services aimed at making their lives easier. The move is expected to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in Punjab.
