Punjab Ex-MLA Dr Satwant Mohi arrested over recruitment irregularity

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau initiated a case against the former chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) and five ex-members for suspected irregularities in the recruitment of 312 medical officers between 2008 and 2009. Dr. Satwant Singh Mohi, a former MLA representing Patiala district, has been arrested in relation to this matter, while searches continue for the other individuals involved. The case is centered on alleged inconsistencies in the selection process for these medical officers.
The government’s actions stem from an investigative report submitted by a specialized team. They’ve brought several individuals into the purview of the investigation. The Punjab and Haryana High Court initiated inquiries in response to petitions challenging the recruitment of 312 medical officers. This inquiry was further supported by reports submitted in court by two members of the investigating team, affirming that the entire selection process of 312 doctors in 2008-2009 was tainted by irregularities.
Charges have been brought under anti-corruption laws and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code against the former chairman of PPSC and five members. An FIR has been lodged at the Vigilance Bureau’s Patiala Range police station, implicating them under the Prevention of Corruption Act and related statutes.
