Punjab anticipates relief from prolonged winter as heavy rainfall forecasted in coming days

There is hope for relief from the shivering cold in Punjab due to the anticipated heavy rainfall on January 31, February 1, and 2, according to the weather department. Meanwhile, there could be a rise in temperatures over the next 7 days.

It is noteworthy that for the first time in 12 years, the entire month of January in Punjab has been dry, with not a single drop of rain so far. The cause is attributed to the weakness of all four Western Disturbances that have formed, preventing rainfall. However, the impending rain is expected to bring relief from the bone-chilling cold. The weather cleared up on the 27th, although dense fog persisted in the morning, people experienced relief from the cold in the afternoon as the fog cleared.

This led to an increase in daytime temperatures, and the daytime temperature hovered around 23 degrees Celsius. During this time, light snowfall occurred in the Lahaul region of Himachal on Friday. Additionally, in Amritsar, the minimum temperature recorded was 3.7 and a maximum of 21.8 degrees Celsius, in Ludhiana, it was 6.0 and a maximum of 22.8 degrees Celsius, in Patiala, it was 6.5 and a maximum of 22.0 degrees Celsius, in Pathankot, it was 4.3 and a maximum of 21.5 degrees Celsius, while Gurdaspur recorded a minimum of 5.5 and a maximum of 17.5 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh saw a rise of 1 degree in temperature.

There is a possibility of rain and snowfall in parts of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kullu, and Chamba in Himachal Pradesh until January 31. The weather changes are being observed due to the active Western Disturbance since January 27. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for Ambala, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Fatehabad, Sirsa, and Jind in Haryana regarding the fog. The temperature in Haryana has been recorded at 3 degrees.
