Punjab’s district Sri Muktsar Sahib has taken the lead by successfully achieving the target set under the Matru Vandana Yojana, providing financial assistance to eligible women for the birth of their first and second child. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister, Dr. Baljit Kaur, informed that the state government aims to enroll 98,036 beneficiaries under the scheme in the current fiscal year, distributing financial aid of Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 6,000 for the first and second girl child births, respectively. The minister commended the dedicated efforts of officials in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, which has emerged as the front runner by accomplishing the goal of enrolling 3,212 beneficiaries four months ahead of schedule. With 3,257 enrollments, the district now leads the state. Similarly, Fazilka district, with a target of 3,836 enrollments, has secured the second position with 3,856 beneficiaries. Dr. Baljit Kaur directed officials in other districts to surpass their set targets, allowing more eligible women to benefit from the program. She urged qualified women beneficiaries to visit the state’s Anganwadi centers and enroll in the scheme. The Punjab government is actively working towards enhancing the nutrition and health status of pregnant women and lactating mothers through the implementation of the Matru Vandana Yojana.
