The police reported that on Tuesday afternoon at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab’s Phagwara, a 21-year-old Keralan bachelor of design student committed suicide.
The situation was brought to their attention on Tuesday evening, according to senior police superintendent Mukhtiar Rai, and an investigation was started. He stated that following a protest by certain students, the situation was under control on campus. According to Rai, more police officers will be stationed there on Wednesday.
Deputy police superintendent Jaspreet Singh said, prima facie, it appears the student was having some personal issues as has been suggested in a note. He added the student’s parents have been informed.
University students were instructed by officials not to believe any rumours concerning the suicide.
According to the statement released by the university, the LPU fraternity is saddened by the unfortunate incident. The university is providing full support to the authorities for further investigation. The university mourns the loss of the student and expresses its condolences to the bereaved family.
