PSI scam: IPS officer Amrit Paul is given 8 days of police custody by Karnataka court

One of the major defendants in the police sub-inspector recruitment scandal, ADGP Amrit Paul, was given eight days of police custody by a court in this city on Monday. Amrit Paul is the seventh defendant in the case that the CID is probing.

According to Investigation Officer N Sriharsha, who filed a request for police custody,

Paul needed to be taken to the locations of the alleged incidents for on-the-spot inspections, inquiries about bank accounts and phone records, and interrogation to uncover the names of other people involved in the scam.

The custody of Paul was granted by the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate.

Paul’s bail requests have thus far been turned down by the court. Since his arrest on July 4, he has been detained.

A total of 30 people have been arrested and an FIR has been lodged against 10 candidates in the scam.

The government cancelled the exam that was being held for it when the scam of hiring 543 PSIs was discovered. Some candidates’ answer sheets were altered to boost their rankings, with the help of bribe-taking police officials and others.

At the time of the scam, Paul worked as an ADGP Recruitment.
