In Haryana, revenue officials (Patwaris) and Kanungos have initiated a three-day strike starting today. The Revenue Patwari and Kanungo Association of Haryana has called for a strike from January 3rd to 5th. During these days, Patwaris and Kanungos won’t undertake any work related to land records. Instead, they’ll protest against the government’s policies by staging sit-ins. The strike will impede tasks such as land measurement, land record updates, crop verifications, and more. This could potentially inconvenience the public.
In Rohtak, State Auditor Harish Kumar and Kanungo Labh Singh are sitting on a protest, demanding a salary increase in January. Earlier, the Chief Minister had acknowledged their demand for a pay raise but subsequently, the Finance Department made some deductions in the proposed increment. Consequently, around 70% of Patwaris did not benefit from it. Kanungo Labh Singh also highlighted the dearth of Patwaris affecting work schedules in Haryana. The government has not initiated new recruitment for Patwaris. In Sirsa district alone, only 69 Patwaris are working for 325 villages. Labh Singh mentioned that if the government fails to address their demands after the symbolic three-day strike, the State Body will strategize the next steps.
Simultaneously, in Ambala, Patwaris protested against the government’s failure to fulfill promises, leading to work cessation. This has caused distress among the public. Patwaris have commenced a symbolic protest demanding a pay scale increase for three days.
In various regions like Kaithal, Charkhi Dadri, and Sirsa, Patwaris and Kanungos are protesting for salary discrepancies. Despite the government initially acknowledging their demands and approving an increase, discrepancies arose in the implementation, affecting their earnings from 2016. They’re advocating for the increment to be effective from 2016 to ensure fair compensation.
