Congress got a major success on Friday as prominent leaders of North Haryana Nirmal Singh and Chitra Sarwara joined the Congress Party, in the presence of General Secretary in-charge of Haryana Congress Deepak Babaria, Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, State Congress President Udai Bhan and MP Deepender Hooda. On this occasion, the leaders said no one can stop the formation of Congress government in Haryana under the leadership of Hooda ji. “Bhupinder Singh Hooda still rules the hearts of the people of Haryana,” the two leaders said.

Those who joined the Congress party today along with Nirmal Singh and Chitra Sarwara include 4 District Councilors, 2 former District Councilors, 1 Block Committee member, 19 Sarpanch, 103 former Sarpanch, 4 Cooperative Society Chairman and Market Committee Chairman, 12 former Corporation Councilors, 7 state office bearers of Aam Aadmi Party, 7 Lok Sabha constituency officials, 77 officials of districts, 36 officials of circles, 129 officials of wards and villages were present from Ambala Cantt, Ambala City, Mullana, Narayangarh, Yamunanagar, Pehowa Vidhan Sabha seats.

Nirmal Singh, who was the national co-convenor of Aam Aadmi Party, and Chitra Sarwara, who was the state vice president, joined the Congress party today along with 256 party officials and thousands of other supporters at the Congress headquarters in Delhi. State Congress President Udaibhan welcomed thousands of supporters accompanying him at the Congress headquarters and assured them that they will be given full respect in the party.

After joining the party, in-charge General Secretary Deepak Babaria, Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, State Congress President Udaibhan and MP Deepender Hooda along with both the leaders, met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal.
On this occasion, General Secretary in-charge of State Congress Deepak Babaria welcomed everyone into the party and said that Nirmal Singh is an old soldier of Congress, and Congress was in his DNA. “He never separated from the party at heart or ideologically, that is why the Congress high command gave full blessings for Nirmal Singh’s return to the party,” he said.

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, expressing happiness over Nirmal Singh and Chitra Sarwara joining the party, said whenever two brothers get separated and meet again, they are as happy as they are today.
“Today the entire country needs to strengthen Congress. India’s democracy is in danger. To maintain democracy, it is everyone’s duty to strengthen the Congress,” he said.
Haryana Pradesh Congress President Ch. Udaibhan welcomed Nirmal Singh and Chitra Sarwara by garlanding them. He said the political life of our old friend Nirmal Singh started from the Congress Party.

“Nirmal Singh served the people of the state as Ambala Block Youth Congress, District Congress President, Youth Congress as well as a minister during the Congress government of Haryana, He was a 4-time MLA from Haryana and a 2-time minister in the state government.

Nirmal Singh and Chitra Sarwara, who was the General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress, are basically associated with the ideology of Congress and their image in the area is that of hardworking leaders who constantly struggle for the for the people,” he said.

On this occasion, MP Deepender Hooda said the right decision was taken at the right time which will bring change in Haryana in the times to come. “Today, a large number of workers including current councilor, former district councilor, sarpanch, former sarpanch are joining Congress, this is their own home. With the arrival of Nirmal Singh and Chitra Sarwara, Congress will get strength in Haryana, the hands of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will be strengthened. There will be a change of power in Haryana as the state which is suffering the most from inflation, unemployment and corruption under the present BJP-JJP government, will once again move forward and become prosperous again,” he said.

Expressing gratitude to the top leadership of the party, former minister Nirmal Singh said Hooda ji always told him to come back to the Congress party. “Congress is a part of my soul. My entire life has been spent for the Congress Party. Today is a happy day for me that I have returned to my home. All our companions walked against headwinds, endured hardships but never left each other. Change of power is certain in the state,” he said.

Former Mahila Congress General Secretary Chitra Sarwara thanked the top leadership of the party and said this day came after tireless efforts and struggle. “This occasion is very emotional. Congress headquarters is not just a building, but a temple for us. In the hour of struggle, we assured that we will stand shoulder to shoulder with full responsibility in every ordeal,” he said.

Earlier, retired Chief Engineer Advocate Ramphal Singh Dangi joined the Congress party in the presence of Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, State Congress President Udai Bhan and MP Deepender Hooda. On this occasion, senior leaders and workers like MLA Rao Dan Singh, MLA Shishpal Keharwala, former MLA Naresh Selwal, former MLA Jasbir Malhaur and others were present.

It is noteworthy that Nirmal Singh had joined Congress Party in 1974 and reached the Haryana Vidhan Sabha by winning the election from Naggal constituency for the first time in 1982. After this, he was elected MLA for four consecutive times in 1991, 1996 and 2005.

From 1976 to 1978, he was the President of the Block Youth Congress. Nirmal Singh was the state president of Youth Congress for a record seven years from 1982 to 1989. He held many important posts in the Congress Party.

Before the last election Nirmal Singh formed Haryana Democratic Front from Ambala City and Chitra Sarwara challenged BJP Cabinet Minister Anil Vij from Ambala Cantt. In the assembly elections, Nirmal Singh had secured 55, 944 votes and Chitra had secured 44,406 votes. Both of them gave a tough fight to BJP.

Presently Nirmal Singh was the National Joint Secretary of Aam Aadmi Party and Chitra Sarwara was the State Vice President of Haryana. Whereas Chitra Sarwara won the Municipal Corporation elections from Ambala Cantt in 2013. After this, she joined the Congress Party in 2015 and worked on many important positions in the party organization. The Congress Party made her the Senior Vice President of Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee, after which she also became the General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress.
