Priyanka gives fresh momentum to Congress’ ‘revival’ in UP

Irrespective of the assessments describing the Congress as a weak player in Uttar Pradesh, AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is understood to have decided to do her best to revive the party in the state. She will, therefore, be present among the party workers of the state till the upcoming Assembly elections.

Her Delhi visits will be limited now. Now, Priyanka’s only aim is to boost the morale of the workers to the extent that they start working for reviving the party with renewed vigour so that the Congress could come back in the fight.

Priyanka, who was on a five-day tour in the state, suddenly reached Lucknow on Monday to give this message to the workers. She will be starting a statewide election tour of the state from Navratri. Earlier the tour was planned from 2 October, but it was postponed due to pitrapaksha.

Now it is almost certain that Priyanka is relying on the existing team for the electoral battle. However, there are speculations that Prashant Kishor and other young leaders may be made to join Congress who could attack PM Narendra Modi and the BJP without any hesitation. But no change in the Congress’ strategy is likely in UP as of now.

After getting charge of UP Priyanka may not have settled in Lucknow, but she is the first AICC general secretary to have visited the state under her charge. Priyanka tried to do whatever she could have done for the organisation. AICC secretary in charge of UP, Dheeraj Gurjar says that Priyanka’s visit to the state has boosted the morale of the workers. She holds dialogues with them directly resulting in their encouragement. This is the reason why all workers have started massive preparation for the election. Gurjar says that the election results of UP will be surprising as Congress is making a significant come-back under the leadership of Priyanka.

Where the Congress stands in UP will be known only after the Assembly poll results, but one thing is sure that Priyanka is sparing no efforts to revive the party. She is aware how the polls of seven states including UP and Punjab are crucial as far as her political career is concerned. There is no dearth of leaders in Congress for Punjab, but crisis is there for UP where the only significant face is that of Priyanka only.
