In the third week of February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to visit the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit has commenced preparations for a grand rally to welcome the Prime Minister, scheduled to take place in Jammu on February 20.
Senior functionaries overseeing the arrangements revealed to The Daily Guardian that the Prime Minister’s visit is expected to span the entire day, encompassing not only the Jammu region but also the Kashmir Valley.
Officials from the J&K Police informed that reconnaissance teams have surveyed various locations for the rally and assessed the security measures in the area. Among the highlights of the visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate several projects totalling over a thousand crores, notably including the prestigious AIIMS facility at Vijaypur in the Jammu region.
This anticipated visit of Prime Minister Modi to Jammu and Kashmir is perceived as a significant move by the Saffron Party, signalling its intentions ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls in the newly formed Union Territory, which is set to witness its inaugural parliamentary elections this year.
These developments unfold against the backdrop of prominent Pahari leaders poised to join the BJP. This trend closely follows the Union Government’s recent decision to extend reservation benefits to the Pahari community under the Scheduled Tribe category. The move has not only strengthened the political standing of the community but has also paved the way for enhanced representation and opportunities.
