President Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi wish Indian Army on Army Day

President Droupdai Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have extended their heartfelt wishes to the personnel of the Indian Army on the occasion of Army Day, which falls on January 15.

In her address to the Indian Army, President Murmu, who serves as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, conveyed, “I extend my warm felicitations to the Indian Army on the occasion of Army Day 2024.” She emphasized the crucial role played by the Indian Army in ensuring the nation’s security, expressing admiration for their professionalism in various situations, including conflicts, counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, national calamities, and disasters. President Murmu praised the exemplary leadership and selfless devotion exhibited by the men and women of the Indian Army.

Acknowledging the sacrifices made, she stated, “Today, we recall and salute the sacrifice of the bravehearts who laid down their lives in service of the nation. The country stands united in expressing solidarity with their families, who have endured the loss of their loved ones with courage and fortitude.” President Murmu also extended her best wishes for the continued success of the Indian Army in all its endeavors, expressing gratitude to its gallant soldiers, veterans, and their families.

Prime Minister Modi, in his message to the Indian Army on Monday, lauded the force as the pillars of strength and resilience. He appreciated their role in times of conflict and calamities, highlighting their courage in combating external threats and providing assistance during natural disasters. Modi commended the disciplined and powerful image of the Indian Army on the global stage, expressing confidence that the nation would draw strength from this and propel the country to new heights during the “Amrit Kaal” (Golden Period) of development.

“On Army Day, we honor the extraordinary courage, unwavering commitment, and sacrifices of our Army personnel. Their relentless dedication in protecting our nation and upholding our sovereignty is a testament to their bravery. They are pillars of strength and resilience,” affirmed the Prime Minister.

It is worth noting that January 15 is commemorated as Army Day every year, marking the historic occasion in 1949 when General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa assumed command of the Indian Army from General Francis Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief, becoming the first Indian Commander-in-Chief post-independence.
