Powercom working on various initiatives to enhance consumer facilities

“Powercom is currently working on several projects to enhance services for electricity consumers in Jalandhar. As part of this series, special attention is being given to the installation of paperless billing and smart meters, aiming to send bills for January-February to the maximum consumers in Jalandhar city (Division 4) using paperless technology. The work of installing smart meters is progressing rapidly under this project to ensure 100% implementation of paperless billing. For this purpose, Powercom is replacing more than 500 meters daily and bringing smart meters to consumers so that over 90% of consumers can be updated under the new system by the end of January.”

“What’s unique about this meter is that its data center is established in Patiala, providing online load and other information from the meter. This helps the department immediately detect issues like low voltage in any area. This system is expected to provide relief to consumers from various problems. Currently, domestic electricity consumers are getting 300 units of free electricity per month, but beyond 300 units, the entire bill has to be paid. Due to the lack of updated information on consumption, consumers face the problem of exceeding the 300-unit consumption mark and have to pay the entire bill.”

“Experts say that with this smart meter system, consumers will stay updated on their consumption, and the system will limit unit consumption. After the installation of smart meters, consumers can receive many details, including their consumption and electricity bills, on their mobile phones. Furthermore, Powercom will be relieved from the hassle of generating bills.”

“Immediate installation of smart meters in cases of electricity theft”

“Under the smart meter system, Powercom has devised a plan to counter electricity theft promptly. As soon as these meters are installed, electricity theft will be detected. Smart meters are being installed immediately in areas where electricity theft is detected under this system.”
