In a swift operation, the Police in Baramulla have successfully thwarted a marriage scam, leading to the arrest of a fraudster who deceitfully preyed on the hopes of a local family. The incident came to light after a resident of Hudpora Khaitangan lodged a written complaint with the Police Post Delina

According to the complaint, the family had planned a marriage ceremony for December 31, 2023, and was in the process of arranging the bride from Thana Mandi Rajouri. However, the families involved had no prior acquaintance and were solely connected through an intermediary identified as Sharif Ahmad Gaasi, son of Ali Mohd Gaasi from Kakapora Pulwama. The concerning aspect emerged when the middleman, Sharif Ahmad Gaasi, ceased responding to phone calls from the concerned families.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Police registered a case under relevant sections of the law at Police Station Baramulla and initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had engaged in fraudulent activities, deceiving the family under the guise of facilitating a marriage. Shockingly, he had unlawfully seized an amount totaling Rs 1.18 lakhs from the unsuspecting victims.

The fraudster was promptly apprehended and subsequently transferred to Police Station Baramulla, where he is currently in custody. The investigation into the case is ongoing, as the police work towards unraveling the full extent of the marriage scam and ensuring justice for the affected family.
