Police busts seven for gambling in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi

At least seven people have been arrested by the police for playing the game “andar bahar” while gambling in a public place. Police were dispatched to the area near Shahabazar Naka after receiving a complaint, and they arrested the suspects.

The incident took place within the boundaries of Kalaburagi Nagar Chowk Police Station.  Along with the deck of cards, police also recovered over one lakh rupees in cash.

“Lightning attack by the police of Chowk Police Station in Kalaburagi Nagar. Arrest of 07 people who were engaged in card gambling in a public place near Shahabazar Naka of Kalaburagi city, 52 cards and cash ₹1,00,300/- rupees were recovered from the arrested. @DgpKarnataka @alokkumar6994,” the Kalaburagi city police tweeted.

The card game andar bahar is played with a normal deck of cards. The objective is to predict which of the two boxes, “andar” or “bahar”, will win.  In similar crackdowns as part of their campaign against illegal gambling, Bengaluru’s city crime branch has dismantled a number of gambling rings and dens.
