In connection with the recent heist of Rs 2 crores worth of gold in Sangrur, the police have arrested police personnel involved in the crime. The arrested individual has been identified as Ashish Kumar and is currently stationed at Abohar City Police Station. The gold loot was discovered just yesterday, while four individuals connected to the police are still at large.
The incident unfolded when a train from Delhi to Bathinda, carrying nearly 2 crores worth of gold weighing approximately 3 kilograms and 765 grams, was looted by unidentified individuals at the Sangrur railway station. The culprits, some of whom were wearing police uniforms, successfully evaded the police dragnet.
Following the Sangrur incident, an alert was issued across Punjab, and Bathinda Police received a lead. A police team intercepted a vehicle and found some individuals on board. A search led to the recovery of the stolen gold; however, all the robbers managed to escape from the scene before being caught by the police. As of today, the police have arrested one of the accused, identified as Ashish Kumar, who is currently posted at Abohar City Police Station. Investigations are ongoing, and further arrests are expected soon.
S.H.O Yadwinder Singh of Civil Lines Police Station stated, “We have apprehended one suspect, and others involved will be arrested shortly. Some individuals are proving to be a challenge for the police until they are apprehended.” The recovered gold was seized by the police in a timely manner, preventing further unlawful activities related to the heist.
