The NAMO Medical Education & Research Institute was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday in Silvassa, in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. He visited campus facilities after officially opening the Union Territory’s first medical college.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a medical college in Silvassa town and launch a number of initiatives worth more than Rs 4,800 crore in the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu during his visit on Tuesday, according to officials.
Later in the evening, the PM is scheduled to hold a 16-kilometer-long roadshow in Daman town of the Union Territory, they said.
The centrally-funded “NAMO Medical Education & Research Institute” and other related structures on the campus, which were constructed at a cost of Rs 203 crore, will be officially opened by Modi on Tuesday, according to the schedule made public by the officials. Silvassa is the capital of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli district.
The only medical college in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu has emerged as a symbol of the region’s residents’ rising hopes and a ray of hope, with almost 40% of them being tribal.
Modern amenities are included in its infrastructure, including a multi-story library, an academic building with four lecture halls and an auditorium, a clubhouse, teacher housing, student housing, and areas for both indoor and outdoor recreation.
After taking a round of the newly-built medical college and other facilities which are part of the institute, the PM will address a gathering at Sayli village near Silvassa.
He will launch or lay the cornerstone for a number of initiatives for the entire Union Territory bordering Gujarat from the same location. According to the officials, the PM would officially unveil projects totaling Rs 4,804.64 crore during his one-day tour.
They stated that Modi will proceed to Daman town in the Union Territory in the evening where he will undertake a 16-kilometer roadshow that will pass from a recently constructed coastal route.
With an aim to turn Daman into a major tourist hotspot, the development of a state-of-the-art infrastructure project called ‘Devka Promenade and Seafront’ was started in May 2018 and completed in March 2023 at a cost of Rs 165.10 crore, said a release.
