PM Modi wears special Jamnagar turban for Republic Day celebrations

The Jamnagar turban worn by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the 72nd Republic Day celebrations has attracted a lot of attention. Prime Minister Modi arrived at the National War Memorial at India Gate on Tuesday, wearing a red turban which was presented to him by the royal family of Jamnagar.

The turban is about nine meters long and is tied in a special way. Unlike the Jodhpuri safa, this turban does not end in a tail at the back of the head. This style is also called the ‘halari pagdi’ as it is known in Jamnagar.

The turban is made of binding and its special colour comes only from the waters of Jamnagar. In other cities, the colours tend to be different.

The turban is traditionally worn by the royal family and the Jadeja Rajputs.
