PM Modi to visit poll-bound Meghalaya today, roadshow in Shillong

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Meghalaya, which is slated to have elections, and participate in a roadshow in Shillong.

Due to PM Modi’s visit, Shillong has increased security. The roadshow will begin at the Central Library and conclude at the Police Bazaar, where he will give a speech to the general public.

Along the roadshow route and at the Police Bazaar point in Shillong, more than 1,000 security officers, including members of the Meghalaya Police and the Central Armed Police Forces, have been stationed.

PM Modi will pay floral tributes to three freedom fighters of the state – U Tirot Sing, U Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma in Shillong.
“Special security arrangements have been made in Shillong for the Prime Minister. More than 1000 security personnel have been deployed in the city,” Assistant Superintendent of Police, Shillong Pawar Swapnil Vasantrao said.

PM Modi will speak to an election campaign rally at Tura’s Alotgre Stadium later on Friday.

It’s important to note that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) requested permission in advance for the Prime Minister’s event at Tura’s PA Sangma Stadium. The National People’s Party (NPP) administration, according to the BJP, refused permission for the event to be held at PA Sangma Stadium since it was still under construction.

Subsequently, the party was granted permission to use Tura’s Alotgre Stadium as a backup location for the PM’s rally.

BJP is running for all 60 seats this time.

Election day for the Meghalaya Assembly is scheduled for February 27, and the results will be tallied on March 2.
