On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed on his first-ever State visit to the United States. PM Modi tweeted “Leaving for USA, where I will attend programmes in New York City and Washington DC.” before flying to the US.

These events include Yoga Day festivities at the @UNHQ, conversations with the @POTUS @JoeBiden, a speech to the US Congress’ Joint Session, and more. The US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden extended an invitation to PM Modi.

The trip will start in New York, where the prime minister will preside over the International Day of Yoga ceremonies on 21 June at the UN building.

After that, PM Modi will fly to Washington, DC, where he will meet President Biden to carry on their high-level conversation and receive a formal welcome at the White House on June 22. The same evening, the Prime Minister will be honoured at a State Dinner hosted by President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). On June 22, the PM will also address a joint session of the US Congress.

Both the House of Representatives and the Senate extended the invitation for Prime Minister Modi to make such a historic speech, showing their respect and support for him across party lines.

He will make history by being the first Indian prime minister to twice address a joint session of the US Congress.

The President and First Lady’s letter of invitation complimented PM Modi’s prior historic speech, delivered seven years ago, for helping to strengthen ties between the two countries.

In its message, the White House underlined that it was a chance to reaffirm the two nations’ close and lasting alliance. PM Modi thanked the government for the opportunity and said he was looking forward to speaking to the joint session.

Having a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership with the US, based on democratic ideals, strong people-to-people ties, and a steadfast commitment to world peace and prosperity, is something that Prime Minister Modi emphasised in his address.

On June 23, the Prime Minister will be jointly hosted at a luncheon by US Vice President Kamala Harris and the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. In addition to official engagements, the Prime Minister is scheduled to have several curated interactions with leading CEOs, professionals, and other stakeholders. He will also meet members of the Indian Diaspora.

He is expected to meet business leaders of 20 top American companies here and is also expected to address a gathering of more than 1,500 diaspora and business leaders who have been invited to the John F Kennedy Centre in Washington.

Mastercard, Accenture, The Coca-Cola Company, Adobe Systems, and Visa are among the top 20 business executives of US businesses that are anticipated to meet with the prime minister, according to two sources acquainted with the event and its planning, who spoke to ANI.

On June 23, 2023, in Washington, D.C., the corporate advocacy group US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), led by Dr. Mukesh Aghi, will hold “We the People: Celebrating the U.S.-India Partnership.”

The speech by the prime minister will be followed by a reception on the Hall of Nations Terrace at the Kennedy Centre. The event featured a number of notable executives, including James Quincey, CEO of Coca-Cola, Julie Sweet, CEO of Accenture, Ryan McInerney, CEO of Visa Inc., and Michael Miebach, CEO of Mastercard.

The PM will next leave for Cairo to visit Egypt on a state visit from June 24 to 25.
