PM Modi congratulates Mamata for TMC’s lead, thanks Assam for supporting NDA

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her party’s performance in the state Assembly polls.

Bengal witnessed a fierce contest between the ruling TMC and BJP across eight phases. The counting of votes began on 8 am on Sunday and latest trends showed that the TMC had already registered a victory on 197 seats in West Bengal while leading on 17.

“Congratulations to Mamata Didi for Trinamool Congress’ win in West Bengal. The Centre will continue to extend all possible support to the West Bengal Government to fulfil people’s aspirations and also to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

He further thanked the ‘sisters and brothers’ of West Bengal who have blessed the BJP and increased the party’s presence in the state. BJP has increased its vote share from the last Assembly polls and won 67 seats while leading on 9 more.

“I would like to thank my sisters and brothers of West Bengal who have blessed our party. From a negligible presence earlier, BJP’s presence has significantly increased. BJP will keep serving the people. I applaud each and every Karyakarta for their spirited effort in the polls,” Modi said in another tweet.

Meanwhile, as trends in Assam showed the BJP set to return to power in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday thanked the people of the state for supporting the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Assembly polls.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “The people of Assam have again blessed the NDA’s development agenda and the pro-people track record of our Government in the state. I thank the people of Assam for the blessings. I appreciate the hard work of NDA Karyakartas and their untiring efforts in serving the people.”

Trends showed a clear edge to the ruling BJP-led NDA, with the saffron party poised to return to power in the state.

Elections were held in Assam in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6. The BJP was facing the grand alliance of eight parties, which includes Congress and Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

PM Modi also thanked the people of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand for supporting the BJP in various by-polls.

“I thank the people of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand for blessing the BJP in various by-polls. Our party will keep working for people’s welfare. Gratitude to the BJP Karyakartas for their untiring determination,” PM Modi tweeted.
