PM calls women the real leaders of India’s dairy sector at IDF World Dairy Summit

On Monday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the role played by women in the dairy industry, claiming that women are the real leaders. Women make up 70% of the workers in India’s dairy industry and more than a third of the members of dairy cooperatives, Prime Minister Modi said while speaking at the opening of the International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit (IDF WDS) 2022.

“Women are the real leaders of India’s dairy sector.” In 2014, India produced 146 million tonnes of milk. Now it has increased to 210 million tonnes. That means an increase of about 44 percent,” he said.

The World Dairy Summit 2022 of the International Dairy Federation is taking place at the India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida. The India Expo Center and Mart hosted an exhibition that Prime Minister Modi also visited.

He informed the crowd that the dairy industry has also been affected by India’s digital revolution and that the digital payment system created for India’s dairy industry may benefit farmers all over the world.

“India’s dairy sector is recognised for production by the masses rather than mass production. Today, 8 crore families are getting employment in the dairy sector. India has become the largest producer of dairy products in the world due to the collective efforts of small-scale dairy farmers,” PM Modi said.

The prime minister stated that the federal government is attempting to combat lumpy skin disease, which has recently caused cattle losses in numerous states.

He stated, “We are also emphasising universal vaccination of animals. We have resolved that by 2025, we will vaccinate 100% of the animals against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis.

According to Union Minister Purshottam Rupala, the World Diary Summit 2022 is being held in India for the first time in 48 years.

“World Diary Summit 2022 has been organised after over 48 years in India. Our milk production is 220 million tonnes today. We are in a position to export surplus milk, in line with the ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat,'” he said.
