Patna doctors recover mobile phone from prisoner’s stomach through endoscopy

In a bizarre incident doctors at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna successfully recovered a mobile phone from a prisoner’s stomach, who swallowed it when the police on Saturday made a raid in the Gopalganj prison.

The prisoner was taken to the hospital, where Dr Ahish K Jha advised to go for different kinds of blood tests and X-rays. After the test results the team of doctors decided to go for an endoscopic test, after that a mobile phone was detected.

Dr Manish Mandal, Medical Superintendent, IGIMS claimed that this was unusual that a device of this size was retrieved with the help of an endoscopic machine rather than surgery.

The incident was revealed because the prisoner (Qaisar Ali) started feeling severe pain in his abdomen on Sunday, a day after swelling his mobile amid fear to be caught by jail authorities.

When jail officials got to know about the condition of the prisoner, they had taken him to a hospital, where it was confirmed that a strange object was in his stomach.

The unusual happenings took place when the prisoner was talking on his mobile phone then a team of jail officials started conducting surprise checks inside the jail. The prisoner swallowed his mobile after seeing the officials due to fear.

Qaisar Ali was arrested by the Gopalganj police in 2020 on the alleged charges of smuggling narcotics near Hajiyapur Village in Bareilly city of Uttar Pradesh.
