As per the officials on Wednesday, Air Customs at Delhi International Airport booked a passenger who arrived from Jeddah and seized gold worth over Rs 50 lakh in the form of paste from the person.
The police have reported that an Indian passenger who arrived at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi from Jeddah on April 29 has been charged with smuggling gold. The recovered gold, which included four oval-shaped chemical pastes weighing approximately 1165 grammes and suspected to contain gold, was confiscated under Section 110 of the Customs Act 1962.
The officials conducted personal and baggage searches on the passenger, which led to the discovery of the suspected gold pastes. Further processing resulted in the extraction of 1013 grammes of unevenly shaped gold bars, with a tariff value of Rs. 53,82,358. This incident was detected by officers of Airport Customs, IGI Airport, Terminal-3, New Delhi, based on profiling.
