An adoption ceremony took place on February 26 at the crèche in Sector 15, Panchkula, with social worker and builder Vijay Garg serving as the chief guest. During the event, Garg adopted a girl child for a professor from Delhi. Ranjita Mehta, Honorary General Secretary of the Haryana State Child Welfare Council, welcomed Vijay Garg and provided insights into the Council’s activities.
Garg praised the commendable work undertaken by the Council for destitute children, emphasizing their significant contributions in placing such children into new families.
Vijay Garg, accompanied by Ranjita Mehta, visited the crèche and interacted with the children. Mehta highlighted that the Haryana State Child Welfare Council has facilitated the upbringing of 170 destitute children in foreign countries through its centers.
Additionally, 616 children have been adopted internationally and within different states of the country. The Council operates four centers in Panchkula, Jhajjar, Hisar, and Sirsa for the adoption of children.
Ranjita Mehta shared adoption statistics, stating that 422 girls and 199 boys have been adopted, with 170 children finding homes abroad. She emphasized the need for a dedicated home center for disabled children above 6 years of age, citing the reluctance of adoptive parents to consider disabled children.
Mehta informed that 74 disabled children in Jhajjar and 55 in Sonipat are currently receiving services. Despite the adoption process being thorough, involving a complete home study, financial checks, and criminal record verification, efforts are being made to streamline the process, with appeals to CARA for further facilitation.
The ceremony was attended by key figures, including crèche in-charge Milan Pandit, Superintendent Milan Pandit, Supervisor Isha Malkanian, and IT expert Sanjeet Kumar Singh.
