Pakistani drone shot down along International Border in Punjab

Early on Friday morning, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel shot down a drone that had crossed the international border from Pakistan into India in the Gurdaspur region of Punjab.

According to a senior BSF official, BSF soldiers on patrol noticed the drone around 4.35 am. They started firing right away, and it was shot down.

An extensive search operation has reportedly been underway in the vicinity to see if the drone has dumped any cargo there, according to a BSF official.

A search operation is in progress under the direction of BSF DIG. The drone was believed to be transporting cargo from Pakistan.

“Brave jawans of BSF spotted a drone coming from Pakistan side. As soon as it entered India, jawans fired 17 rounds of bullets at it. One of the blades of the drone was damaged. The entire area is being searched. The drone will be analysed,” said BSF DIG, Gurdaspur, Prabhakar Joshi.

Pertinent to mention, during the past nine months, security personnel have seen 191 drones enter Indian territory illegally from Pakistan, raising serious questions about the nation’s internal security.

In order to stop such illegitimate attempts from the Pakistani side, the central government recently conveyed the advice of the security forces stationed at the India-Pakistan border.

According to the document, of the 191 drones detected, 171 crossed the India-Pakistan border into Indian territory through the Punjab sector, and 20 were spotted in the Jammu sector.

The “UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) observation in the Indo-Pak border was seen in Punjab and Jammu frontier with effect from January 1, 2022, to September 30, 2022,” according to the document.
