Opposition parties displeased despite Supreme Court’s Article 370 decision

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s endorsement of the parliamentary decision to abrogate Article 370, opposition leaders continue to voice their discontent with the judgment. Key figures from various political parties express disappointment, emphasizing their commitment to ongoing political and constitutional battles.
Ghulam Nabi Azad, chairperson of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), deemed the decision unfortunate and emphasized the need for everyone to accept it with a heavy heart.
Azad expressed surprise at the outcome, citing the hope that the Supreme Court would consider the sentiments and historical background related to Article 370.
As opposition leaders come to terms with the Supreme Court’s decision, they pledge to explore other means and continue their fight through political and constitutional channels.
Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, decried the verdict as a “defeat of the idea of India.”
In a video statement, Mufti urged the public not to lose hope, viewing the Supreme Court decision as a temporary setback rather than a final destination.
“This is not our defeat, but a defeat of the idea of India… No decision is final. Even if that is the decision of the Supreme Court, for us, no verdict is final,” Mufti asserted, vowing to continue the political fight that has spanned decades.
Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister and President of the National Conference, acknowledged the loss in the Supreme Court case but declared that the fight was far from over. Quoting an Urdu couplet, he conveyed his grief but emphasized that despair was not an option.
“Our efforts do not end here… We will continue to use every political and constitutional recourse available to us,” Abdullah stated, expressing regret over not convincing the court of their arguments.
People’s Conference Chairman, Sajad Lone, expressed disappointment, stating that while Article 370 may have been legally obliterated, it would persist in the political aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
