SRINAGAR: Authorities after lot of efforts were able to restore Jammu-Srinagar national highway for one-way traffic on Sunday. After the latest snow and rains, this highway was closed due to the triggering of landslides in the Banihal-Ramban axis of this highway.
Srinagar-Leh highway remained closed while an alternate highway from South Kashmir to Jammu known as Mughal road was closed for traffic for the last six days due to heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of this area.
Traffic authorities in Srinagar said that traffic was resumed on Srinagar-Jammu highway but got disrupted due to dense fog in several sectors of this highway. Traffic authorities’ appealed to people both in Jammu and Srinagar to undertake a journey on this highway after contacting the control room.
Meanwhile Kashmir and many parts of Ladakh region witnessed sub-zero temperatures for the nights after the recent snowfall. According to the MET department night temperatures dropped further in Drass town of Kargil recording minus 17.6 degree celsius. In Kashmir valley the MET officials said Gulmarg recorded minus 7.6 degree celsius on Sunday.
With weathermen in Srinagar predicted dry weather for one week, the night temperatures are likely to drop further due to clear skies in Kashmir and Ladakh areas.
