Nuh violence: 250 shanties demolished after communal violence

The local authority in Nuh razed approximately 250 shanties belonging to those named in the recent communal unrest in Haryana’s Muslim-majority region, alleging they were unlawful.

According to several news sources, the shanties belonged to illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and were used to coordinate stone pelting on the religious process, resulting in communal clashes throughout the region, including neighboring Gurugram in the national capital region.

According to police sources, the majority of the miscreants who threw stones and attacked shops came from the settlement. According to the report, the administration intends to carry out similar demolition efforts in other areas where mobs attacked the march led by the right-wing organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

Narender Birjaniya, OSD to ADGP (Law) Mamta Singh, said, “We have carried out demolitions and principally, these structures were illegal. You cannot have an illegal structure and use it to hamper law and order.”

A mosque was set on fire and a short circuit apparently started another in Haryana’s Nuh district, while two Muslim brothers were allegedly beaten up in Gurugram by a mob of approximately 30 people on Wednesday, according to police.

Authorities in Nuh and Gurugram reported no new incidences of violence on Thursday, claiming that the situation is under control.

Meanwhile, Nuh Superintendent of Police Varun Singla, who was on leave when the district’s ethnic riots erupted, has been reassigned, according to an official order issued on Friday. According to the report, Singla has been appointed superintendent of police in Bhiwani.
