NREGA worker accuses village head’s husband of sexual assault

In Bhilwara, a distressing case of rape involving a female worker under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) has surfaced. The victim, associated with NREGA labour, was allegedly sexually assaulted by the husband of the village head, Rajkumar Meena, along with his friends.
According to the police report, a 35-year-old woman from the Hanuman Nagar police station area lodged a complaint. She detailed her ordeal, explaining that she worked as a labourer under NREGA. During her NREGA work, she came into contact with Rajkumar, the husband of the village head, who provided her with a mobile phone. Subsequently, she alleged that Rajkumar, through sweet-talking and intimidation, subjected her to sexual assault. The victim resisted the assault, but Rajkumar threatened to declare her absent and withhold payments. Upon discovering the rape, the victim’s husband abandoned her. Rajkumar continued to harass her through phone calls. On December 9, Rajkumar, accompanied by his accomplice Devi Shankar, allegedly sexually assaulted the victim in a jungle. Later, they took her to the Panchayat building, where both perpetrators reportedly raped her and plotted to kill her by trapping her in a van.
Realizing the danger, the victim screamed, attracting the attention of people nearby. In response, the perpetrators fled the scene, and the victim’s relatives took her home. Subsequently, the victim filed a case against the accused at the Hanuman Nagar police station, where the police registered the case and commenced the investigation.
