Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) screening camp organized at civil hospital

On the occasion of World Stroke Day, a Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Screening Camp was organized at Civil Hospital Sector 6 Panchkula. The camp was organized to screen sweepers and class IV staff members of Civil Hospital Panchkula and the Office of Civil Surgeon Panchkula for Anemia, Hypertension, Diabetes, and Common Cancers.
The Camp was organized by District NCD Cell Panchkula at District NCD Clinic under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Panchkula and under the supervision of Deputy Civil Surgeon (NCD). Over 60 Staff personnel were screened, out of which 33 were found to be anaemic, 9 members were suspected of Hypertension and 7 for diabetes. Those who were found to have any of these conditions were referred to the appropriate department for further diagnosis and treatment. An oral examination of all employees was done, and no one was suspected of oral cancer. All were advised on oral hygiene maintenance and brushing techniques. Female staff members were also oriented on self-breast examination. For clinical breast examination and cervical cancer screening, female staff members were advised to visit the department of Gynaecology. All attendees were counselled on lifestyle changes and dietary modification along with the distribution of IEC pamphlets on Hypertension, diabetes, oral cancer, self-breast examination, cervical cancer, diet, exercise, menstrual hygiene and harmful effects of alcohol and smoking, etc. In addition to screening for NCDs, the health workers also informed the employees about the signs and symptoms of stroke and precautions for it. Stroke is a life-threatening disease that occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, depriving brain tissue of oxygen and nutrients. Brain cells begin to die within minutes.
The NCD Screening Camp was a success in raising awareness of NCDs and stroke, and in identifying staff members who are at risk of developing these diseases. Early detection and treatment of NCDs and stroke can help prevent serious complications and improve the quality of life.
