No sounding of mourning siren on Martyrdom Day

The Punjab government has reversed its decision to sound the mourning siren in the state on December 27 during the Martyrdom Day gathering. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann personally informed about the reversal, stating his reluctance to have the entire congregation embroiled in any controversy amid honouring sacrifices made during these days of martyrdom.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had expressed dissent regarding the government’s decision earlier. SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami had deemed the decision to sound the mourning siren during the Martyrdom Day of the tenth Guru’s Sahibzadas against Gurmat Maryada.
Dhami remarked that the martyrdom of Baba Jorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, the younger Sahibzadas of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, isn’t a symbol of sorrow but a representation of the Chardi Kala spirit. He emphasized that by sacrificing themselves for truth, righteousness, and faith, the Sahibzadas created a unique and unparalleled example in the world’s religious history. Despite their young age, their steadfast resolve in Sikh principles was no less than resolute individuals. He also urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann not to overlook the sentiments of Sikh history and doctrines
