The special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Mohali convicted Kulwinderjit Singh Khanpuria, well a known terrorist of the banned organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and framed charges against himfor collecting arms to wage war against the country on Thursday. Khanpuria was produced in Mohali Court through video conferencing on November 16.
The NIA had registered a case against Khanpuria in the year 2019. He was arrested on November 18, 2022 from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi when he was coming back from Bangkok on the input of intelligence.
Charges have also been framed against Khanpuria for criminal conspiracy and sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The court framed charges against Khanpuria under sections 121, 122, 123, 120-B of the IPC, sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act and sections 17, 18, 18-B, 38 and 39 of the UAPA.
The NIA, in its charge sheet filed against Khanpuria,said that he entered into a wide-ranging criminal conspiracy with his accomplices Ravinderpal Singh, Jagdev Singh and Harcharan Singh. The conspiracy was related to a large-scale terrorist attack in the country and waging war against the country. Their aim was to revive the Khalistani wave of terrorism in the country and to establish a Khalistani country through violent means.
After the arrest of BKI and Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) member Khanpuria, the NIA had taken his police remand for three days. His role in the incidents of attacks on institutions linked to Dera Sacha Sauda was also probed. The NIA had taken Khanpuria’s custody for questioning in the hand grenade case registered at Rajasansi police station in Amritsar police station. In 2019, two hand grenades and a mobile phone in a bag were recovered from two motorcyclists during a check post.
