Next hearing in 5994 teachers’ recruitment case set for Jan 30

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has scheduled the next hearing in the case related to the recruitment of 5994 ETT teachers in the Punjab School Education Department for January 30, 2024. The court, headed by Hon’ble Justice Deepak Sibal and Hon’ble Justice Amarjot Bhatti, addressed the matter during the hearing on Tuesday. The decision on whether the case will proceed to the next hearing was left to be determined on January 30, 2024.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Government shared this update, noting that the hearing before the double bench involved Senior Deputy Advocate General Ramandeep Singh Pandher, representing the Punjab government. Pandher argued that similar decisions to those made by the Punjab government have been upheld by various courts, emphasizing the need to resolve this matter accordingly.
Due to the unavailability of the regular bench of Honorable Justice Deepak Sibal and Honorable Justice Sukhwinder Kaur, the court fixed the next hearing for January 30, 2024. The court also mentioned that if the Supreme Court does not deliver a decision by the next hearing date, they will decide whether to proceed with the writ petition filed in the 5994 case. Notably, the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is actively expediting the recruitment process. School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains is overseeing the matter closely, working with departmental officials and the Advocate General’s office to promptly resolve the case.
