Nepal Plane Crash: 16 killed, PM Prachanda condoles loss

On Sunday, an aircraft carrying 68 passengers and four crew members crashed in Nepal’s Pokhara. According to the spokesperson of the Nepal Army, a total of 16 bodies have been recovered from the site of the crash of a passenger aircraft. Of the 68 passengers on board, 5 were Indians.

Taking to Twitter, the office of the Prime Minister of Nepal tweeted, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident of Yeti Airlines ANC ATR 72, which was flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara with passengers. I sincerely appeal to the security personnel, all agencies of the Nepal government and the general public to start an effective rescue.” Following the crash PM Pushpa reached the site to take updates on the situation.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also condoled the loss saying, “The loss of lives in a tragic plane crash in Nepal is extremely unfortunate. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the bereaved. Om Shanti.”

Kathmandu Post quoted a spokesperson of Yeti Airlines Sudarshan Bartaula as saying that the ATR 72 Yeti airlines aircraft crashed between the old airport and the Pokhara International Airport.
Images and videos of the crash posted on social media platforms showed plumes of smoke billowing out of the crash site.
